Yes, but please tell me why they are called "mullets". This information will settle a long-standing dispute, but don't worry if you don't know - there's no money riding on the answer.

APPARENTLY, according to the web (must be true then)
The origin of the term "mullet" has been traced back to the film "Cool Hand Luke." I haven't seen the film in a while, but apparently one of the guys calls people with long, shaggy hair "Mulletheads." A legend is born.
I think Billy Ray Cyrus had the best Mullet.

Not having seen any web pages on the subject, I had assumed that it came from the UK detective programme "Frost". (I know, I should get out more!)
The unit boss's name is Mullet, and there are constant derisory references to the way he works and looks. I hadn't realized that Mullet Hairstyles were global, I thought they were only referred to on UK Childrens TV.
The world is now a better place for knowing the True Source of Mullets!

I prefer your theory, since the term wafts round UK football grounds and coversations in English pubs, where some of my fellow drinkers are too young to have seen the film..

I'm too young to have seen Cool Hand Luke too!!
I'm just saying that according to the web, thats where it comes from.
That and the previously mentioned detective program is rubbish

Can I suggest that the mullet is possibly the worst fashion faux pas in the history of the world... ever. Even when it was in, it wasn't in. Have you tried http://www.mulletsgalore.com for the ultimate in horrible mullets. Also, my mate neil at http://www.geocities.com/neilsmullet

Can anyone at there post up or direct me to a site where I can get a picture of the Chuckle Brothers WITH mullett hair doo's. I've found one with them de-mulletted but this just isn't good enough obviously. Many thanks

no John no John no John no John ....NO JOHN
You are all wrong. The name 'Mullet' comes from the concept of a mullet (a fish) being hung over someones shoulders. The outcrop of hair is symbolised by the mullets tail. This is hard to describe without the visual aids of a mullet and a unwitting dupe.
