Did the Romans used forced labour when they first built the wall?

I have no idea! I expect they built it in the same way they built everything else though. So if that was a habit of theirs, I expect so. I don't think there were many natives in the area at the time though.

Roman society depended on a supply of numerous slaves, so I wouldn't be surprised if they forced the local Britains to do most of the manual labour.
