I'm surprised by this. I thought Sweet William was a variety of Dianthus (slightly related to Carnations).
Useful article, but needs a picture. (Then I could find out whether it's what I call a sweet Wulliam) smiley - starsmiley - star

No, it's not, they look completely different - one of the links does go to a picture - look for the one in the references that starts 'Cinnabar caterpillars'.

I think I only added the bit about Sweet william because it came up in PR.
