If I recall correctly, Watterson caved in to syndicate pressure only once and agreed to the creation of a Calvin and Hobbes calendar, which he promptly regretted. I have one of the calendars - it's a cherished possession.

I thought he was pretty much forced. He had constant license battles, and even had some cartoons with hidden meanings that were metaphors for the license battles

did you ever find out what the deal was with the Calvin pissing on the Ford/Dodge/Chevy logo stickers was? Have I mentioned that I find them very annoying?

Those appliques are flagrant copyright violations. As of the tenth anniversary book, I seem to recall that Bill had adamantly refused licencing on any merchandise whatsoever, including that calendar mentioned earlier. I'd have to check again to be sure, though.

I mentioned those in the entry. I don't know if the sub cut it out of not, but I certainly mentioned Calvin pissing on other car logos

I'm glad you mentioned the peeing Calvin stickers. Those have always bothered me. Wonderful article, btw. I'm a big C&H fan.
