A Conversation for Mediation

Peer Mediation is growing in popularity in American schools, where the students involved in a conflict go before a 'peer mediator' who works with them to resolve the situation. It takes the school Administrator out of low level disciplinary problems, gives the kids a greater feeling of involvement with the system and encourages better behaviour as none want to go before a friend and be punished for name-calling or scuffling on the playground.

Of course, there is always an adult present to ensure that proper conduct is observed in the mediation. And often, the students suggest harsher penalties on each other than they would receive through the 'normal' channels.
