A Conversation for Witty Quotes

I have read many of these quotes before and they still make me chuckle. I always wish I could come up with retorts like these off the top of my head.
I have to wonder however, how many of these are real and how many have been altered over the years until they obtain urban myth status. The fact that the same quote is attributed to both Disraeli and John Wilkes suggests that while it may once have been uttered, its heritage has been lost and it is now only an ammusing anecdote looking for a home.

I seem to remember that the Ghandi quote was said by Chesterton, probably before Ghandi, but I don't know if GKC was the origin.
