What an interesting article for the guide! I may just have to track this tale down for its curiosity value. I hadn't even realised any of Mary Shelley's 'competitors' had ever completed their story.

If this interests you, I read a great novel By Tim Powers once called "The Stress of her Regard". It's a really quite unusal vampire based novel with Monsieur Polidori as its hero.

For a different perspective again, try Tom Holland's simply excellent 'The Vampire' and Supping With Panthers', both of which feature Lord Byron as the anti-hero and Polidori as a rather unpleasant villian.
Holland is probably the best writer of vampire stories out there at the moment - his other novers 'Deliver us From Evil' (about the earl of Rochester') and 'Sleeper in the sands' (about the Pharoah Aknahten) are set in the same universe and are hust as good.
