A Conversation for House Plants

Help.
Calling anyone. I've kept a poinsetta (Xmas buy from supermarket) alive for nearly 4 years now. No-one wants to give advice, because accepted wisdom is that they die as soon as bracts fall. I know this isn't true, and mine is still looking lively, but beyond repotting and cautious watering I'm stuck, and becoming scared my ignorance will kill it. Any advice, please?
