Word has it that on 2 February 2012 the national groundhog definitely saw a shadow. So six more weeks of winter for the US.
Meanwhile in Canada, both the Nova Scotia groundhog and the Ontario Groundhog failed to find shadows and predicted an early spring for Canada.

In the UK Candlemas (also the 2nd Feb) is also a day of traditional weather predictions.
When Candlemas is bright with sun then the winter is half begun but if Candlemas day is dark with rain then winters power is on the wane.
So in the UK it looks like more winter...
