One of the things that fascinated me about the fountain when I was a child was it's tiny doorway - I always wanted to see inside it.
You're quite right in describing the fountain as the focal point of the town.
One (very pedantic) quibble I have is that it would be more accurate to describe it's situation as being the junction of Rother Street (Rother meaning cattle - the original site of the cattle market), Greenhill Street (meaning the best fish and chips ever - there used to be a stampede out of the cinema when the national anthem was played to be first in the queue at the fish and chip shop on the other side of Greenhill Street) and Wood Street (where the Hippodrome was; where, in 1969, I attended a concert by the Edgar Broughton Band beginning a long descent into hearing impairment).

...and (just a passing thought, this) who placed this article in the Staffordshire section? Perhaps the geographical knowledge of those working for the BBC in London only extends as far north as Watford?
