The Franklin expedition is mentioned in a song by the excellent Canadian singer-songwriter Stan Rogers in his song Northwest Passage, the chorus of which goes like this:

Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage
To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;
Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage
And make a Northwest Passage to the sea.

you can see all the lyrics and a video of Stan belting out this great tune at http://stevebriggs.superb.net/stanrogers/nwp.html

and there is a great guide entry (currently in peer review) to be found here http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A880995

there is also a recording by Martin Carthy, a very moving version of "Lord Franklin" which was unashamedly plagiarized by Bob Dylan.

Really sorry to be anal about this, But Martin Carthy was never in Fairport. He was in Steeleye Span for a bit. I must now go and punish myself for being a sad folkie. If you hear screams, it's just me sanding my beard down...

That's what I THOUGHT Rogers was singing until I got the CD. But he was too great a poet to repeat himself. Its a "Land so WIDE and savage."

The CD, is btw, "Northwest Passage," Fogarty's Cove Music FCM 004D. IMHO "Northwest Passage" is the best thing on it.
