Hook turn vs learning to drive.

Melbourne is the only place in the world I know that has trams AND hook turns. (Yes there are trams in the civilized world as well). In most civilized places, instead of such silliness, they generally expect people in cars to actually know how to drive. (Well except Manchester, I never saw a car T boned by a tram, but saw a lot of near misses).
By the way, trams are NOT a solution, they are a quirk, the solution is a metro/underground/subway, these actually work.

Actually the trams in Vienna are pretty cool. And its so much fun watching them "play" with Italian cars.
