A Conversation for Evil from a Western Perspective
Marx vs. Smith
cellorando Started conversation Nov 25, 2007
Smith died before Marx was born and could not have been his ideological nemesis. Smith's evil was not collectivization since he had no idea what that was. His evil was merctilism, the handling of business by the government instead of without the government. Private citizens and government folks were meant to profit personally through this system, not through society as a collective. It was all about the same greed that spured capitalism.
Marxism was a response to the looming mass starvation Thomas Malthus was writing about.
Your evil, Smith's, and Marx's are all different.
