I should note that there are 64-bit versions of XP available, and 32-bit versions of Vista, so the opening paragraph seems a bit misleading? Moreover, there still aren't that many applications that run 64-bit, and for those that do the performance benefit isn't usually all that much.

For me, the key new feature of Windows Vista is per-application volume control: no more suddenly massively loud instant messenger beeps while I'm watching a film smiley - smiley.
