Interesting to see this referred to. The idea of 'flying a broomstick' comes from the practice of smearing the end of the stick with a hallucinogenic concotion and inserting it into a certain body cavity to increase absorption, giving the sensation of flying. Don't try this at home.

I deliberately avoided saying that! It's just rude and unnecessary!

Hmmm.... that's a debatable point. Unnecessary? For starters, such an iconic image of a witch must be rooted in *some* historical context, so it's hardly gratuitous of me to spell it out. Rude? Well, yes. But I assume that this is Mina with her BBC hat on recoiling from my exposition of this practice. Not the good ol' Mina with the we know and love.
Now, where did I put the whippet?

How're ya doin', anyhow m'dear? Long time no see. I got promoted this week at work but the rest of my life is still a pile of poo. And I have a cold.

Oh well done on being promoted.
What's with the rest of your life? I've been trying to subscribe to people's journals, so that I can keep up a bit better now I'm not on h2g2 very much, but it's a slow process.
I'm doing just fine, still enjoying work, despite it not being on h2g2 any more, and I have some time off coming. Normally that's a bit of a blow, but I'm looking forward to just sitting around at home for a bit.

Come to the next East Midlands knees-up, when KerrAvon and I get around to organising it, and I'll either (a) have sorted life out by then and I won't have to talk about it or (b) things will have got worse and you can ply me with beer to drown my angst and shut me up. Mainly it's to do with my atrocious father being terminally ill, which has thrown up a lot of old and not very nice emotions around unfinished family business. This is also having its effect upon my relationship, with me and my better half not getting on very well atm.
I now manage a team of people and am senior consultant to my company division, which means I should earn quite a tidy sum, so I really think I ought to spend some on as well as gardening stuff.

I do try to make out of London meets - there are a few people who never come to London who I'd like to meet. Let's hope you organise it on a weekend when J stays with his father!
You're managing a team? Impressive. I'd love to be Senior something or other. Not fussed what. As long as it means I get to ask someone else to make the
