It really depends what it is that has to be perfected. It requires a balanced approach - knowing when to hand over to an expert, who may not be a perfectionist, but will do it quicker and better than anyone else arround and not get uptight about it.
True perfectionist are rare. The rest have personality problems.
The media would have us all 'perfect'. The government wants every thing above average. And so on. Cultural neurosis here we come!
