Hello everyone smiley - lurk
As one of Japanese nation, I strongly want to tell that this image of "flag of the Rising Sun" is no more our national flag. This was of the imperial time till the end of the World War 2.
To me (and maybe, to the people who were born after our generation, 70s), this image may be of the historical old flag under the imperial regime, and to the old Japanese people, this may reminds them of the one of the most terrible, awfuly bad time during the World War 2 in Japan, moreover to other Asian people, especially old Korean, old Chinese (including Taiwanese) people reminds them of the one of the worst days of "half" Japanese colonial period. Also, this would give you, Western people, the wrong image of Japan.
Because not only British, but also people in the all over the world come and see, read this article, I'm sure this wrong image give you wrong image of Japan.
So, please don't misunderstand our country with this ex-Japnese flag image.
It's pity that this kind of old images (even about samurai, geisha, blah blah blah... smiley - grrgrrrr) give you misunderstanding of my country smiley - cry

all the best,
smiley - diva

We're a bit limited on the choice of photos in our database, but hope that this picture of Tokyo at night is a bit more representative of Japan today. smiley - ok

My experience??? I think there are some Japanese Researchers here... but my friends on h2g2(British) told me that I was the one who were "the most active Japanese Reseacher" I don't know this is true, but I, who are eager to chat to British people, try not to find any Japanese Researchers here Hope my English is fine for all researchers here to understand... I'm not confident on myself nor my ENLGISH. By the way, I replied to this thread about chopsticks, the difference usage of chopsticks among Chinese, Korean and Jpapanese chopsticks, and a brief explains on their questions. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F6543780?thread=3953526 Hope this will help you or edditing article, too Taamyu
