the stock car world championship held in 1977 was for the super stox formula and was won by gordon mcdougal who is the current chairman of the club and the promoter of the stock cars and i believe it was actualy in 1976 or earlier.the club has never had a nickname containing "coo" there has been only two nicknms in the clubs history "the miners" and "the blue brazil" the clubs fanzine "when the sun shines" refers to an old song the supporters sing "when the sunshines on the cow shed" sung to the tune of una paloma blanca. as for attendances the football one is accurate but the stock cars regularly get crowds of 1-2 thousand for a domestic meeting and alot higher for championships. stock cars started at central park in 1965 under spedeworth scotland a franchise owned by roy cecil later passed to his son nigel after roy's death stock cars went from strength to stength holdig huge championship meetings and being rated as a tone of the top tracks in the uk until the football club decided not to renew the lease in 1986 until the club was bought by mr mcdougal in 1989 wnen the stock cars returned under the brisca banner. incedently when cowdenbeath fc "turfed out" the stock cars in 1986 it was to bring in a local american football team "the fife 49'ers" this did not happen because the scottish football accosiation did not allow it because it would cause too much damage to the pitch and make it unplayable for football. anothe pice of info is that the floodlights errected in 1968 were bought from celtic fc. i hope i have more info to follow as this all i can recall from memory, i shal try to attain more info from my father who was the grouns man in the 70's and early 80's.
