h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Prague is a great place to visit. One of the few places in the world in recent years where I have seen people stand for elderly/heavily pregnant women on public transport (Which is fantastic).

I took my life in my hands when I arrived by train... I was offered a room in someone's house which turned out to be clean, have a power point, a private toilet (luxury to a backpacker) and be comparable to a dorm bed in a Youth Hostel. I'm sure some people have had terrible experiences doing this... but I had a great time.

Prague crystal is beautiful and worthwhile shopping around (off the main drags) for.

Yes, I agree, it is great. We were also picked up by someone at the train station and came to a fantastic two-room flat right next too everything. It costed us not much but more than our low-budget plan admitted and we moved after only one night to the Youth Hostel.

The new place was awful but cheap. Tall concrete buildings surrounded with asphalt far away from the city. Not far away enough though.... and I will here give you the pearl we found.... we decided to walk down to the city and we found this park with very few people and lots of trees and nice views over the river. It took us quite a while to actually get down to the Brigde and everything but it was definitly worth it. We even found a deserted pear tree garden with ripe fruit!

This park is found on the palace side of the river and that is all I remember, more than the nice atmosphere and all that of course.

Note: The concrete buildings were said to be used by students during terms and I can't think of a worse place of halls, but then I myself always lived quite well as a student.
