A Conversation for Marmite

Marmite

As a non-Brit, I must confess that I have had a bad first experience with Marmite. I tried it on a British Airways flight returning from England to U.S.A. last year ... I carried on a packet of Marmite that I got from a B&B. Oh, how I wish that I would have read the guide before that trip!

I smeared a hefty portion of marmite on a cold piece of melba-toast. The smell was horrific but my curiosity about the British love of the product won out and I took a bite. I'm certain that Marmite-lovers would have found my facial expression to be priceless. The taste was revolting!

However, after reading about the proper way to experience that gooey, smelly substance ... it wouldn't be too much of a suprise if I was to give it another try. Thanks for the guidance!

See! Proof that The Guide really is useful.

I really must insist that you track down some Marmite and try it properly - it IS available in the US, apparently, as one of my friends managed to find some in a Wal-Mart or another large supermarket over there when on holiday.

I live in the US (at the moment) - I'm happy to offer advice on tracking down the brown gooey goodness if you let me know where you are. In New York I know it's available at Dean & DeLuca, and Tea & Sympathy. You can also get it in Long's drugstore in Carmel, CA (they stock an incredible range of British chocolate as well...)
