Lab specs are generally seen to be the hideous monstrosities that stereotyping tells us they are.
As a chemist this deeply disturbed me. However I can say that after three years searching, when I should have been working I now am the proud owner of some, what can only be described as, lab wrap around shades. The lab I work in is very sunny and hot. That's my excuse anyway.
These don't enhance my work in anyway, but they do scare the hell out of any prospective students who come wandering by. No one expects chemists in sunglasses, especially ones that grin a lot.
