A Conversation for Sauerkraut
Sarma - Serbian Sauerkraut
The Eye Started conversation Jun 15, 2000
I am from Austria but what with the large population of guest-workers from former Yugoslavia in our Country, I also happen to know yet another version of Sauerkraut.. it is called "Sarma", and comes from Serbia (maybe other parts of the Balkan too, but I don't know about it)...
It is produced slightly differently from the usual Sauerkraut which is cut up real small and then put in a barrel with Salt-Water.
Sarma just isn't cut up, i.e. you use the whole .. uh .. "Krautkopf"
tastes slightly different.. better if you ask me.
