A Conversation for Sauerkraut

But different from my north-west-german experience with Sauerkraut, the norwegian "surkål" (remember the dutch version?) usually is flavoured with cumin. It's a part of the traditional norwegian christmas-menu "Ribbe", ribs. They are usually cooked on top of small branches of birch (without bark). Delicious, although I don't like cumin.
Anyway, locally bounded kitchen seems to be often more international than it looks at first sight. Another example is irish stew and it's norwegian equivalent fårikål.
