A Conversation for Gresford Colliery Disaster
The price of coal

An excellent, thought provoking piece.
My Dad was from South Wales and my Mum was from Newcastle so mining is strongly in my family. I cannot imagine another industry that has anywhere near as many serious accidents as mining.
I knew a man who was responsible for first aid underground. He told me that they were the only people, other than doctors, who could give someone morphine at the scene of an accident. That was because the time for a doctor to get to the scene of the accident below ground was too great a wait and the injuries which were relatively commonplace below ground were often massively painful.
