is Beryl Markham.
Her story is documented in her beautifully written memoir "West With the Night" pub. in 1942 - "...she has written so well, and marvelously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer. " - Ernest Hemingway

The lists I researched at the time didn’t include those who walked away, so I’ll see if I can revise it some time to mention Beryl.
That means I’ll probably have to include Nigel Farage on the politicians entry
