A collective term for poorly paid waiters or supermarket shelf stackers who aim to appear in productions on the stage or in films. They are closely related to amateur dramatists, with the exception that actors get paid to be waiters and supermarket shelf stackers, while amateur dramatists often practise voluntary work such as teaching or religion.
