A Conversation for Vins de Pays

Picpoul de Pinet

Picpoul de Pinet is my favourite wine. It is made of the Picpoul grape and produced in the area around the villages of Pinet and Castelnau de Guers.

A white, faintly greenish dry wine, perfect with seafood from the area [ oysters from Bouzigues on the Etang de Thau ]. It traditionally comes in slim green bottles with sea waves around the neck of the bottle [ called a Neptune ] since many of the vinyards overlook the Mediterranean.

The word Picpoul has, I think, the meaning sweet/sour. The grape almost went out of existence in the middle of the last century but in the last ten years is making a small revival. There is even an organic Picpoul from Domaine du petit Roubie.
