What a cheapskate plonker he is..

Plenty of us batted their eyes. It was quite notable here and many were outraged. The problem is he is ALWAYS outraging us. That's his modus operandi, never giving people enough time between outrages to focus on one. That and his "state media" tells his followers it never happened that anyone who says it did has "Trump Delusion Syndrome" and that he's yet again a victim of fake news.

This week, in one speech, he gave us multiple new outrages including telling autoworkers that another Biden administration would lead to a "bloodbath" in the car industry and that those arrested for assaulting the capital are "hostages" and "political prisoners".

Also, our non-Trumpstate media are apparently incapable of holding him accountable and keep practicing some level of "both-sidesism" and are afraid of appearing hyper-partisan even though his side has been labeling them so for decades.

I don't think anyone is really concerned that he will 'sic' Russia on Canada right now. What we are worried about is his Supreme Court appointments are actively delaying his prosecution long enough that he might be reelected and will dismiss all the federal cases against himself and pardon all those insurrectionists currently in prison or pending trial.

Today I learned that sunburns and tans are two separate things. Tans are caused by UVA as well as accelerated aging and increased risk of skin cancer. Sunburns are caused by UVB. Tanning beds use primarily UVA. Many tanning bed shops suggest that you can get your daily dose of vitamin D from their tanning beds, but vitamin D is supplied by UVB so there is no benefit from tanning beds at all.


btw, as a fair skinned redhead, if you want to imagine what I'd look like using a tanning bed, put a fork in the microwave.

Because of the snap general election and the need to rush candidates to stand, populist business* Reform UK paid a company just under £150,000 to vet their candidates to ensure that they didn't put forward any dodgy people who would hurt their image, only for the company to admit they haven't actually done any vetting work, which is why Reform UK ended up with a pro-Hitler candidate.

* Reform UK pretends to be a political party but isn't set up as a democratic party with members who can vote, but instead is a business predominantly owned by Nigel Farage. In the unlikely event of Reform UK winning the election and Farage subsequently selling his shares to, say, a drinks company, would that mean that the British government could be owned by Coca-Cola....?

Sounds like Wilders' PVV in the Netherlands (which also isn't Democatic in structure and has no members). They have become the largest party, but have trouble finding candidates that pass scrutiny for Minister and Secretary or State posts. This week, all candidates get grilled on their CV in Parliament. One was abandoned over a previous gun law offence, others are suspected of fraud (candidate for Economc affairs), racism (candidate for immigration) and so on.

I didn't like the previous government, but I strongly doubt the new one will be an improvement.

Today I learned Pink Floyd had a disco hit.


I just watched a YouTube video explaining how Bob Ezrin helped create Pink Floyd's biggest hit single by convincing them (and working on the song behind their back, including sneaking some school children out of class and into the studio without permission) to stretch out their original short version of Another Brick in the Wall pt. 2 and give it a disco beat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_mTm9giIGo

I grew up with that song and never even thought about it having a disco beat.

Today I learned the first army to lay land mines was the Confederate army in the US Civil War. The last one discovered was in the 1960s, a century later.

And that is one of the dangers. They stay in place long after the original conflict.

I also learned that the country with the most landmines is Egypt.
Most of them are left over from WWII!.

Today I learned that my dentist does not really like to go to the dentist himself (because keeping your mouth open for 30 minutes or more is annoying)

I'm surprised about that - before 2022 I would have guessed the Korean border or Western Sahara, and now possibly Ukraine.
Yes, Egypt was heavily contested during the Second World War, plus tensions with Israel, but they've had time to address the problem and I would imagine they need a nation free of landmines more than a brand new capital city.

Today I learned that the US inflation under the Biden administration was largely similar to what happened in the EU, with the EU inflation lagging behind by 4 months on average.

EU inflation was more driven by energy prices (Ukraine war), US more by rents, caused by higher demand. (limits on annual rent increases are common in European countries)


I wonder what to conclude from this.

-Biden didn't do worse than we did.

or...

-EU inflation is influenced by US inflation (hence the delay) Probably because Central Banks try to maintain the Dollar/Euro exchange rates in balance.
