The funniest thing about the eclipse in July 1999 was how loads of people took the day off work and headed south (supposedly the best place to see it was on the south coast of England). Even fictional characters from the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders went off to Cornwall.
The only trouble was, when the day of the eclipse came it was overcast down there.
Luckily I was in the Midlands, where although it was only around 90% eclipsed, at least there weren't many clouds in the sky.
Of course, the characters from EastEnders had no problem at all with cloud cover. Funny that...
