Episode IV

Hi all:
This article states that the crawl at the start of the first movie was labelled "Episode IV" as a tribute to the old movie series, and that the subtitle "A New Hope" was added later. This is incorrect.
The first release, the one I saw 4 times at the cinema, was not labelled Episode anything, it was just Star Wars. Both "A New Hope" and "Episode 4" were added later, prior to the release of "The Empire Strikes Back".

I don't remember the "Episode IV" at the theater, either. But I was pretty impressed by the whole thing and would have missed it in any case. I had to drag my wife to the theater, "I don't wanna see some dumb sci-fi flick!" "Oh, c'mon, they say its really good!" And boy, was it ever. She became a life long fan. I was glad that somebody finally made the effort to do it right ... up to that point, only the sci-fi novel COVERS looked right.
I have to admit it was more of a western than anything else, but whatever ...
