Alex,
My uncle was stationed aboard the Amethyst, just before sailing he was asked to volunteer for a deepsea diving course. Which he did, unfortunately, he couldn't take the pressure on his ears, so was sent home to recuperate.
His best friend was killed covering the gun position my uncle would have taken.
My uncle was on board the Consort when they liberated the Amethyst.
