A Conversation for International Driving Etiquette
Driving in Rhode Island
Duke-boy Started conversation Oct 4, 1999
Driving in Rhode Island requires knowledge of a few key rules:
-Whereas most states reserve the right lane(s) of a highway as travel lanes and the left as a passing lane
in Rhode Island the roles are based on ego and vehicle type. For example if you have a car that should go
fast (ie 67 Mustang) or an expensive SUV, you should drive in the leftmost lane regardless of speed.
-Turn signals are optional. If used, they must be used in one of two ways. 1: Use the directional Midway
through completing a turn. 2: Signal the opposit direction of the way you will be turning.
-Drive slowly... it is a small state and you would hate to miss it.
-Slam on the brakes for any reason you see fit, including to look at an interesting cloud formation, to
change radio stations, etc.
-Left turns on red are acceptable.
-Right turns should be made from the left lane across traffic and vice-versa.
