h2g2 says "That Hadrian's Wall could prevent the spread of the English language north is a true tribute to the ingenuity and skill of those Roman craftsmen." What's Hadrian's Wall got to do with it? From Wallsend to the Scottish border near Berwick is nearly 70 miles. Do the Northumbrians know that they don't speak English?
