A recent stuy from the Institute of Child Health, University College London says that nearly a quarter of all children are overweight or obese by the age of three. Nearly a fifth of toddlers - 18%- are heavier than they should be and 5% are clinically obese..
The figures are based on the heights and weights of 14000 three year olds.
Among ethnic groups, Indian toddlers were the fittest, with only 9% being overweight. Black Caribbean children were the least fit with a third being overweight, compared with 23% of white children.
'The message is that weight problems don't just start at school age - it starts earlier.'
