A Conversation for Things That Make Your Skin Crawl
The way people talk

I posted this in Annoying Phrase, but it's terrible enough to go here too.
There is a particular phrase I can't hear without curling up and whimpering.
When someone, addressing more than one individual, means "What do you want to do?" but says "What do people want to do?"
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.
Maybe it's because I don't like the word 'people' (I can't disassociate it from 'stupid'.) And it sounds awful and snooty, like you're trying to be posh.
Also, 'received pronunciation' especially "Go and arsk". 'Barth' etc. I can just about put up with, but there is no way 'ask' can, or should, be lengthened.
It's even worse when someone uses this pronunciation inconsistently, because then they obviously choose to say it.
