Apple Day

1 Conversation

The annual national celebration of apples, orchards and local distinctiveness is celebrated on 21st October in the United Kingdom.Launched in 1990 by Common Ground, it has proved to be a popular function throughout the UK including hundreds of local events.

Where shall we find our apples?

  • National Trust Houses.
  • Pruning and grafting classes.
  • Apple roadshows.
  • Apple and food drink in the Houses of Parliament.

Hopefully, by linking particular apples with their roots,
orchards will be recognised and kept by the locals, not
only for their sumptious apples but also for the wealth of wildlife they support.

Hundreds of different varieties of apples may be seen on
Apple Day, apple tasting stalls are in abundance (never
like those found in the shops). You may even buy some to
take home.

At the apple identification service you may bring your
unidentified apples to the apple doctor to be identified
by apple experts with whom you can discuss your problems.

What will there be to eat and drink?

  • Apple cakes.
  • Apple chutney.
  • Apple juice and cider.
  • Apple cookery, pruning and grafting demonstrations.
  • Apple bobbing.
  • Apple and spoon race.
  • Apple stories and archery.

It would be a wonderful celebration for apple lovers all over the world to join in this unique and quaint English ideal.
