Note to editor:
the map of Michigan, USA is incomplete. It is missing half the state...
Although I realize Midland is in the lower portion of the state, the map is entitled "Michigan, USA" when, in fact, it is a map of "Lower Penninsula, Michigan, USA".
Thank you for your attention. Please see P65594

Here Here! As a Yooper, I constantly see maps showing the L.P. only being labeled "Michigan". There are 2 penninsulas after all.
Not to mention that the map shown has got to be one of the worst renditions of the lower that I have ever seen. Where did they come up with that one? A 17th century "new world" map?

Boy, you can say dat again, eh!
The only thing they got correct on those 17th century maps was the part about 'here be dragons'
They leave all that stuff out on the modern maps, like very few maps of the UP show the current location of dragons. Of course, that's a good thing, since we are endangered, and all. Sorta like the Kirtland Warbler...
Say ya to da UP, eh?

Ya! You Betcha!
My favorite map of all time was posted on the front page of The Flint Journal many years ago (yes I was a troll at one time). This was a map showing base closings around the country.
It showed the only Air Force base in the U.P. (which is closed by the way) as being in Minnesota and the U.P. was labeled as part of Canada. This was a DOD map! That is scary!

The most accurate map of Michigan I have EVER seen is [naturally] in the Guide. It is located on the newly published Michigan entry. A143849
While based on my accurate outline map of Michigan; the details were wonderfully rendered by the incredibly imaginative H2G2 staff. Not that there is anything wrong with the map on THIS entry, it just leaves out half the state. The part that is there is fine.

I assumed that the map was a joke, especially with the breast implant sitting in Lake Michigan (or whatever that lake is, sorry). If you can't get a map image with the breast implant on it, leave it as is!

Although I am not responsible for THIS map of Michigan [lower half] I would agree with you that the map is intended to be witty.
I do think that the trees, breast implant, and saxaphone, in the circles floating in Lake Huron [Lake Michigan is on the west coast of the state] were intended to be symbolic rather than representative of actual objects.
At least I have never personally seen trees, breast implants, or saxaphones floating in the lake...
for a MUCH more accurate map of the state, please see http://www.h2g2.com/A143849

Yours is a much more accurate map, but has a noticable lack of prosthetic breasts.
I thought the saxophone was a pipe. Now THAT would be comical.
I grew up in Chelsea (about 20 miles West of Ann Arbor), so you'd think I would know the Great Lakes. I blame my ignorance on Chelsea Public Schools, which taught me more about waiting quietlyfor adults to finish speaking than they did about local geography. Also my high school Physics teacher had a little tiff with some of the school administration, so he shot and killed the superintendent and wounded two others. Oh yeah, and Jeff Daniels grew up and went to school here too, 20 years before I did.
The rest of your piece on Michigan was nice, if a little dry. There has to be something amusing that could be said about "circumspice."

I could say that the editors cut out all the really funny bits, but that wouldnt be entirely true. They actually were the ones who put IN the 'circumspice' part. They did, however render the bunny and mitten on my geographically accurate map of the state.
BTW, Jeff Daniels has recently produced a play entitled 'Escanaba in the Moonlight'. Since his Purple Rose theatre in Chelsea is undergoing renovation, the play opened in downtown Detroit at the restored art-deco theater: the Gem.
The play is a yooper tale of deer camp and other truths. I have not yet seen it, but it is on my must-do list.
And having been in public education for 30-odd years [and believe me, some of them were very odd] I understand the inclination of your Physics teacher, while not condoning his actions.

I'm aware of Daniels' plays and the Purple Rose theatre. We have seen a great influx of MARSUPiaLsSimilar to the acronym YUPpies, MARSUPials are Middle Aged Rural/Suburban Professionals. in the Chelsea area since Jeff's theatre went in, and since a fancy-shmancy restaurant called The Common Grill went in downtown. Lots of people with lots of money from somewhere other than Chelsea come to town for dinner at the Common Grill and then a play at the Purple Rose Theatre. I haven't seen any, because they're mostly $20 to $30 per ticket. Do you really want to pay more than $20 to see a piece of high culture entitled "Escanaba in da Moonlight"?
And no offense to the families of the victims, but if you had dealings with the Chelsea Schools administration, you'd totally understand how someone could be pushed to homocide.

Well, I went to see da Yoopers last summer in DeTour, and dey were pretty good, eh? But you are right, it will probably cost a good deal more than $8.00 to get in to see 'Escanaba in the Moonlight'. However it is still touching to think that someone sees 'great truths' in Deer Camp...
I HAVE had dealings with school administration and totally understand the urge, although acting on it is pretty scarey. [Fortunately I was able to escape from my district before anyone was driven to that point]

Imagine my surprise when I find clicking around the edited guide that the only state with its own category is my home state.
I've been considering writing a tour guide entry to Muskegon, Michigan, my home county, but it'll have to wait till I finish my guide to WDW.
Maybe one day there'll be two articals in here.

the currently used picture needs to be replaced by one zoomed in on the Saginaw Bay area with Detroit and 'Langsing' omitted.
