Minstrels' gallery - pure invention
coelacanth Started conversation Aug 21, 2006
As I already pointed out a few weeks ago in the PR thread, there is an error that needs correcting.
In the section about the Great Hall the Entry says: "..built in the 1470s for Edward IV. It was to be a dining room for the royal court and had a minstrels' gallery..."
But the guide book and the audio guide are very clear that this was no more than a fanciful addition. Extract from the Guide book:
"The Courtaulds...made a series of interventions that might be described as 'antiquarian revival'..(representing) Stephen Courtauld (and his architects') view of what a medieval Great Hall should be like... Examples of this work include the Minstrels' Gallery which is pure invention and not based on evidence."
