Horno means oven in Spanish. I don't know why anyone might prefer this word, instead of tandoor, f'rinstance.

Thanks, Sea Change. Spanish isn't one of my languages, although I can see the similarities with the Italian 'forno' now I know what it means.

In Morocco they don't use 'bricks' (http://benshashatales.googlepages.com/breadoven!, the ovens are a clay/straw mix, laid over a pile of stones (which are then removed). There is a home to let the smoke out whilst the fire rages, but this is blocked up once the fire dies down, to allow the oven to get hot.
