A Conversation for Games to Play Down by the River

Fizzball

Fizzball was first introduced to the public by Steve Purcell, in the comic book "Sam & Max: Freelance Police"

Equipment:

Numerous cases of cheap, evil-smelling beer, of the sort you find stacked up by the supermarket checkout during national drinking holidays.

A mattock handle, or similar massive club or branch.

Crash helmets and safety goggles (optional, but highly recommended).

Teams: None. The players take turns, one being the pitcher, a second playing the batter, everyone else standing out of the way.

The pitcher stands about fifteen feet away from the batter. He shakes the can vigourously for a minute or so, then throws the can to the batter with a gentle, underhand pitch. Don't try to strike the batter out - you /want/ him to hit the can.

The batter swings like a mad ape, attempting to hit the can in the soft middle. If you do it right, the can will explode dramatically, raining the playing area with cheap beer and glittering aluminum shards. The other players then go 'ooh' and 'aah' at the sight.

Afterwards, switch off players and do it again, until everyone is covered in cheap beer and has aluminum shrapnel in their hair.

Besides explosions, other exciting effects are possible - beer-propelled rockets, for instance. Use your imagination!
