Great piece of work! Understanding is all to us otherkin! I thought I was alone in my beliefs. Being a
on this
is rather lonely sometimes as so many people do not believe in our existence.
This h2g2 is a wonderfully welcoming and open-minded place.
I will fly into the other sites you've mentioned which are specially for otherkin.
May the MAGIC bless you!

I found your article very interesting, as I've never truly felt human at all, especially as I get older and the feeling grows stronger.
Unlike the ones at Otherkin.net, I doubt I'm a faerie or werewolfe or anything like that. Really, I just sort of believe that there might be a planet out there with people like me and my family (for you see, it is not only myself who feels this way....so do my mother and brother). I'm just hoping the mothership comes for us before the other humans destroy this planet over another petty squabble.
Thanks for the insight! May the Schwartz be with you!

I'm definitely human in body and mind, and if re-incarnation exists, i don't think i went through the process before. Even so, this is one of the most interesting things i ever heard.

Wow... So there are other outsiders (or otherkin) as well...
I am glad we are not as rare as I previously thought, but it saddens me bit as well. The feeling of being something unique is fading... Damn.

Interesting article. While I haven't heard of this before, and must admit my reaction is "do these people really believe this?", I do believe there are historical roots to the stories in our cultural folklore. I also believe I have no right to doubt what others believe, so even though it sounds far-fetched that someone would think they are an otherkin, I have no personal reason to disbelieve it, even though less open minded people might think these people would be exhibiting signs of madness/delusions. I used to work with someone who thought she was a vampire, and while I never quite thought she "really" believed this, I am starting to have second thoughts. So there is a section of society that takes this very seriously indeed?
As I said, my own beilefs are my own, and I totally respect others' right to their beliefs. I hope you don't get too many negative comments, as the article will no doubt inspire skeptics!

There were a few touches in this post that made me take this more seriously than i might have, one is that otherkin don't necessarily believe to be better than humans in any way.
That they just feel, well, simply different, and then maybe they come across accounts of certain creatures that seem more familiar, or that it occurs to them out of the blue like what they really are.
And that otherkin generally don't tell other people that they are otherkin and tend to hide a bit.
That's quite different from the common or garden nutcase.

Very true, Delicia. Bloody looneys will be more than glad to let you know they're stark-ravin' by flinging poo or telling you about the majick mushrooms in their basement.
Now, if you will please excuse me, I am off to play chess with Joe Camel. Don't go near the cat, for she is plotting to overthrow Bill Gates. Best to leave her alone.

I also read your take on science and the paranormal, i find it a very sensible attempt and has actually inspired me to make a note to revise my use of the word magic.
For me science always meant the smallest (actually it's a rather big one) common denominator for the perception of the world and magic everything i can't rightly explain within the scientific frame of reference and therefore mostly keep to myself so as not be thought of as silly.
