A Conversation for Different Approaches to Treating Mental Illnesses
Alternatives . . . .

I was bounced arround psycologists as a child . . mostly because my parents periodically recognised that there was a problem . . somewhere (in the family) but weren't sure where. My distict impression from childhood of psycology was someone who helps you open a vein, sits there for an hour and watches you bleed and then with a glance at the clock sends you off into the world to bleed out - out there . . . I'm glad of the experience though because when - as an older teen - I recognised the need to straighten out some wiring that had really been messed up along the way - I turned to alternative therapies for an answer.
I looked at Reflexology (but found this is more effective for physical ailments), aromatherapy (but while i went ahead and got qualified as a therapist - I never could handle lying still for an hour under the hands of a stranger) and then I found Reiki.
Reiki is a form of healing that originated in the east (in this form) but has many expressions in different cultures. Reiki holds the key to helping a person to claim empowerment over their illness, nurture themselves and begin to release fear.
There were many elements to my recovery from so many "isms", but Reiki was a real key. I would really recommend to anyone who is battling to cope with life - to find a traditional Reiki master in their area and take a class. I say traditional because the non-traditional masters follow no set form and include all sorts of things in their classes that may seem foreign and scarey to people unfamiliar with alternative medicine. Reiki in its pure, traditional form is simple, clear and will not clash with any system of belief.
Never give up the idea that healing IS possible. I get so angry when I hear of people being labelled for life with something or other. Psycology is such a young science, its just figuringthings out . . . you can be whole, comeplete and healed. Your own path may be nutrition, counciling or something like Reiki, but dont stick arround in a pattern that goes round and round without hope of recovery. Wholeness is possible, even for those who have been through the worst life has to offer.
Keep passing open windows all,
