Scott Levy Entry - A Response

aWelshOpinion

First of all, bravo for creating an entry based around a pro-wrestling legend like Levy, strangely its the largest wrestling legend entry in here (even though Scotty would be way down the list of all time greats), but well done all the same.

You should also be commended on your writing skills, god only knows wrestling fans need a reputation boost; we aren't all illiterate sheep living in a fantasy land. I'm just writing a quick response because, in my opinion, there seems to one big piece of conjecture in here which I couldn't help but notice.

First of all you seem to be eager to critcise the (then) WWF and Vinny Mac for renaming Levy as 'Johnny Polo' (which is only fair given that it's one of the worst gimmick names ever), and shoving him down the card and on to colour commentary/management duties. This is my main problem with your account.

I am sure Levy had headlined at some point in his early career on a regional level, and possibly even on one or two WCW TV tapings, but to be a true main eventer surely he had to have headlined at least 2 or 3 pay per views for a national company (WCW or WWF). And I can't think of him headlining even one, even in a tag team scenario. Thus I cannot support your claim that before he first arrived in STAMFORD (not Stanford, surely a town/city founded by someone called Stan) he was a headliner/main eventer.

In my opinion, and again this is just my opinion, Levy was an opening match act or lower mid carder at best, especially in the size/vocal ability obsessed WWF. Granted he was viewed as having great potential at this point but, before that drastic change he went through under Paul Heyman in ECW, nobody in upper management of either company would have seen him as a money draw at this point.

Remember The Junk Yard Dog, Kerry Von Erich, Curt Henning and Hacksaw Jim Duggan were all huge stars on the regional circuit, but never achieved anything near main event status in either of the big two, yet no ones blaming Vince McMahon, Dusty Rhodes or Eric Bischoff for that, they just weren't big money national draws.

Sorry, just my opinion.

All the same, thank you for creating this entry. smiley - smiley
