A Conversation for Post-post Remorse
"Ad Hominem" Arguments

Good entry, hitting the "Post Comment" button too fast is something we all need to beware of. Similarly, the "ad hominem" comment is sonething to avoid (a good definition at Wikipedia). Example:
Person A: "I bought a [brand] MP3 player instead of an iPod, works great for me!"
Person B: "Do you use Windoze?"
Person A: "Yes."
Person B: "Okay, now we all know what your opinion is worth "
An exaggerated example, but I've seen many comments that use a subtle disparagement of the previous poster, rather than address the basic point. I am sometimes tempted, but try to avoid it ...

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
