I'm not sure its not possible to do a monograph.
Of course, there are real robots these days.
I think, though a complete or nearly complete accounting ov them is possible, though there are robot stories that go back to the early 19th century and even classical timex.
What about the riding goats used by Thor and Loki in "Thor's Journey To Utgard"?
Arguably, perhaps the oldest robot story in creation.

Sounds like you've been inspired – I'm certainly intrigued. There's certainly no reason why you cannot write something on the subject, or possibly even update this.
