Thanks for the words to this - had forgotten some of them. What an excellent singer/writer Ian Dury was! I remember the first time I heard any of his songs - I had read about him in the NME and turned John Peel on one night in the middle of one of his songs. I knew immediately who it was from the description in the NME without needing to be told. I went out and bought New Boots and Panties the next day!
My very small point is that, as you are on my side of the Atlantic, we talk about "metre" in relation to poetry not "meter"
