Great entry, Anhaga! Before there is any development on public land here in Texas an archaeological survey has to be done. The library where I work is one of the sites that archives all the reports of these surveys submitted to the Texas Historical Commission. I enter these reports into a database, so I get to peruse them. Most don't find anything, but some are really interesting. People of European ancestry are slowly coming to the realization that there were people in the Western Hemisphere a lot earlier than was believed. They could have come by sea along the coasts before there was any land-bridge to Alaska. Here's a site you might want to check out:

Especially look at "Gault", and "The Belle", which was one of La Salle's ships, and thus, a connection to Canada.

Thanks for the link and for reading my entry. I've been aware of the Gault site for a while now, and I remember hearing about the Belle a number of years ago. I think it's important that track is kept of these things. There is an Archaeological Survey here in Alberta as well, but not a lot of people are really aware of what is out there. In some ways, that might be a good thing for preservation.
