England is now effectively a one-party capitalist state and the US doesn't seem to have any socialist characteristics either. Nobody in the former communist countries of eastern Europe seems to care about the very poor or the very young or the very old.

Prescriptions are no longer free. Neither are dentistry or eye tests. It's always been quicker to get treatment by seeing a specialist privately, but now it's too obviously so. The system isn't a patch on what it was, but it hasn't quite got back to as bad as it was before 1944.
The great dreams of "decent housing" and education seem rather battered too

That's what you get for he lowest personal income tax in the EU. Compared to what I paid for my denatl costs the UK health service still is free.

That's the point. Low taxation isn't a socialist principle.
