is it safe to wire two toasters through one plug?
the first toater had a 5 amp fuse
the second is an older toaster with a 13 amp fuse
sometimes both are used at the same time sometimes only one at a time
the plug has both leads going into it (just) and the 13 amp fuse fitted, it seems to work. But is it safe.

No, absolutely not! As you said, the first toaster had a five amp fuse. Since it's now running through a plug with a thirteen amp fuse, if something does happen that would have caused the 5A fuse to blow, it might not blow the 13A fuse - so you would have a *very* unsafe toaster.
Please, please, please give each toaster it's own plug!
