With all these fictional elements how did Schlemann find Troy using the written story? In fact he did. So maybe there was enough truth left over to formulate directions and find a city that people though was ficitonal (Troy).
Other experts thought it was allegory for understanding wave patterns in the Mediterranean sea, or just fiction and that was after Troy was found. So much for the experts.
